This morning, I had an unexpected experience that reminded me of how close our loved ones in spirit truly are. As I was going about my morning, Alexa suddenly started playing a song—a song that, I later learned, had meaning for my husband’s sister, who passed before I had a chance to meet her. I hadn’t touched the device, nor was I near it. Yet there it was, filling the room with a melody that brought her spirit into our home, bridging the distance of time and space. Today, on the Day of the Dead, it felt like a gentle reminder that even those we never met can touch our lives from beyond.
How Spirit Uses Technology to Communicate
There’s something about electronics that draws spirit energy. Over the years, many have shared stories of lights flickering, songs playing at just the right moment, or devices activating without anyone touching them. It’s believed that spirit uses electrical energy because they themselves are pure energy, and our devices—from phones to smart speakers like Alexa—can act as channels through which they communicate.
While I didn’t know my husband’s sister personally, this felt like a connection, a small but meaningful way for her to reach out to her family, letting us know she’s still present. Sometimes spirit sends these messages when they sense we’re open, or even just to bring us comfort. It felt like she was showing her love and keeping a gentle watch over our nephew and my husband, bridging the gap between us in her own way.
Honoring the Presence of Loved Ones on the Day of the Dead
Today, as we celebrate the Day of the Dead—a day for honoring our ancestors and loved ones who have passed—it’s a beautiful time to acknowledge these signs and remember those who’ve gone before us. Even though I never had the chance to meet my husband’s sister, her presence through this experience reminded me that we are connected to family and ancestors in ways we may not fully understand.
Whether you’ve had an unmistakable sign from spirit or just a feeling of closeness to someone who’s passed, take a moment today to honor their memory. Light a candle, reflect on the stories you’ve heard, or even listen to a song that connects you. Remembering them in these ways opens a door, inviting their presence into our lives.
So, when a device acts up, a light flickers, or a song plays that speaks to your heart, consider it a possible message from spirit. Love has a way of transcending distance and even time, keeping our loved ones close in unexpected and beautiful ways.
